Howland Island / Northern Montezuma Wildlife Management Area Horse Trails

Miles of Trail:It's an island, so you can only get so lost for so long. It is best in cooler weather - can get quite buggy in the summer.
Skill Level:Mostly flat and nice wide trails
Footing:Very good footing overall. Be aware of holes on the berms between the ponds, especially early in the spring. This is NOT the Audubon Center or Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge - they are all connected and a part of the whole Monhtezuma Complex - but this the only part that horses are allowed.

Other Trail Uses:Lots of hikers and hunters
Parking:Nice parking lot, but not huge. If it's a busy day, there will be trailers parked along the road in.
Maintianted By:The DEC manages this area for wildlife, so are on site and do more maintenance than in some of the state forests.
